Papers, 1862-1863.

The signal message journal of Seabury contains messages relayed between Union outposts at Norfolk and Deep Creek, Virginia, chiefly re vessel passages, Confederate troop movements and guerilla activities, the battle of Kelly's Store near Suffolk, the beginning of the siege of Suffolk, and permits and passes for civilians. Many of the messages are to and from General Egbert L. Viele, military governor of Norfolk. There is also a separate note from Major Franklin Asa Stratton to Viele and General John James Peck about the Confederate evacuation of Sandy Cross, North Carolina and two photographs of Seabury.
